Baking soda is like magical cleaning fairy dust. You just sprinkle it over any dirty surface, add a splash of water, and the gunk magically disappears. We don’t have a recipe today but we do have this awesome cleaning technique that is so cheap and easy. Why would you buy any other cleaning product? (and you can bake with it!)
Our stove top gets pretty dirty so we tend to clean it every few days. However, as you can see in the pictures below, we haven’t cleaned ours in weeks. We’re not lazy, we just really wanted to make a point of how awesome baking soda! This was a huge sacrifice for Declan because he is the clean freak in the relationship. But seriously, look how dirty we let our stove top get:
Is that a burned macaroni?
Ew, yes it is. This stuff is just caked on. It’s time. Look who showed up to party.
First, remove the burner grates from the stove. Then lightly dampen the stove top by either wiping it with a moist paper towel or using a spray bottle to spray water all over it.
Next, liberally sprinkle baking soda over the entire surface, making sure to focus on the areas that are the dirtiest. Let this rest for about 5 minutes (or longer to make cleaning a cinch).
Using as few paper towels as you can SCRUB BABY SCRUB! Don’t just wipe away the surface, really get in there and scrub.Put some effort into it.
The baking soda acts like an exfoliant and gently scrapes off any gunk that is on the surface while at the same time absorbing the dirty oils and juices that are left behind after you cook.
So far so good…
Focus on the tough spots first. After everything has been scrubbed away, carefully collect all of the remaining dirty baking soda and throw that away.
Finish by wiping down the stove top with a damp paper towel to wipe away the remaining baking soda.
If you noticed you missed some spots, touch up with a sponge. Return the burner grates and enjoy your “new” stove top!
